APPSC Group 1 & 2 Science and Technology Preparation Strategy 2026–27

Science and Technology has become an increasingly important area for APPSC Group 1 and Group 2 aspirants because questions are not limited to basic science. The examination demands an understanding of emerging technologies, space, biotechnology, defence, energy, health and environment-related technologies, along with their current applications.
With the APPSC Group 1 Screening Test scheduled for 24 January 2027, this is the right stage to move from scattered preparation to a syllabus-oriented, current-affairs-integrated and MCQ-focused strategy.
Abhiram IAS Academy is conducting an exclusive Science & Technology programme for APPSC Group 1 & 2, beginning with a FREE Orientation on 9 October 2026.
1. APPSC Group 1 Notification 2026 – Important Details
APPSC has released Group 1 Notification No. 07/2026 for 166 vacancies. Applications are open from 6 October to 27 October 2026, up to 11:59 PM, and the Screening Test is scheduled for 24 January 2027.
The Screening Test consists of two objective papers – General Studies and General Aptitude. Each paper consists of 120 questions for 120 marks with 120 minutes duration, and 1/3rd negative marking applies to incorrect answers.
With limited time available before Prelims, aspirants should now shift their focus from merely collecting material towards syllabus completion, multiple revisions, current-affairs integration and regular MCQ practice.
Science & Technology can be particularly rewarding because conceptual understanding helps eliminate incorrect statements even when a question is based on a recent technological development.
2. How to Prepare Science & Technology for APPSC Prelims?
The biggest mistake is preparing Science & Technology as a collection of random current-affairs facts. Instead, follow a simple approach:
Basic Concept → Technology → Application → Indian Development → Current Affairs → MCQs
Build conceptual clarity in major areas such as space technology, biotechnology, genetic engineering, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, information technology, quantum technology, defence technology, nuclear technology, renewable energy and emerging technologies.
For example, while studying CRISPR, understand the basic principle of gene editing before learning about its applications. Similarly, while studying an ISRO mission, understand the launch vehicle, payload, orbit, objective and application rather than memorising only the mission name.
Current affairs must be connected with static concepts. A new satellite should trigger revision of remote sensing and satellite orbits; a development in gene therapy should lead back to DNA, genes and genetic engineering; and renewable-energy news should be connected with solar, wind, hydrogen and energy-storage technologies.
For Prelims, special attention should be given to statement-based MCQs, scientific terminology, applications, institutions, missions and frequently confused concepts.
3. APPSC Science & Technology Prelims Strategy
Science & Technology preparation should run through three parallel tracks: concept building, current affairs and question practice.
Do not spend excessive time studying advanced scientific theory. APPSC aspirants need exam-oriented conceptual clarity, not university-level technical knowledge. Prepare concise notes containing definitions, working principles, applications, advantages, limitations and important Indian initiatives.
After completing every topic, immediately solve MCQs. Maintain a separate record of incorrect questions and revise the underlying concepts. This creates a continuous cycle:
LEARN → REVISE → PRACTISE MCQs → ANALYSE MISTAKES → REVISE AGAIN
In the final months, focus heavily on revision and tests. Technologies appearing repeatedly in current affairs should receive additional attention, but they should always be studied along with their basic scientific concepts.
Remember that with 1/3rd negative marking, conceptual clarity is essential for eliminating misleading statements and avoiding unnecessary guesses.
4. FREE Orientation + Science & Technology Course
To help APPSC aspirants understand what to study, what not to study and how Science & Technology should be approached for Prelims and Mains, Abhiram IAS Academy is conducting a FREE Science & Technology Orientation.
FREE Orientation: 9 October 2026
Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Regular Classes Start: 12 October 2026
The complete Science & Technology Course for APPSC Group 1 & Group 2 is available for ₹3,000 and covers Prelims and Mains with notes and study material. Classes are available in Online and Offline modes.
For aspirants who cannot attend physically, the orientation can be attended online. Download the Abhiram IAS Academy App to join the online orientation and access the course.
This programme is particularly useful for aspirants who find Science & Technology confusing because of its vast current-affairs component. The focus is to convert a seemingly technical subject into simple concepts, exam-relevant notes and question-oriented preparation.
